Princess Of Mars

by Edgar Rice Burroughs

Sci-Fi/Fantasy

Captain John Carter, a Virginian prospecting for gold, is attacked and finds himself imprisoned in his own body deep in a strange cave. He breaks free only to find is body remains behind while he is transported to Barsoom -- the planet Mars. He is found by a tribe of the mighty green men of Mars, who have captured the beautiful Dejar Thoris. They escape but are separated and John Carter must integrate in to the most warlike tribe of the Red Martians and rescue his beloved Princess of Mars once more.

Written in 1912, this novel is a vast story, filled with excitement and adventure. The pace never lets up, the characters are well developed and the prose remain fresh. Surely these stories are due for the big screen treatment?
