Melted Into Air

by Sandi Toksvig
Fiction

Frances Angel returns to the small Italian village of her birth when life as a theatre producer and actor's ex becomes too much.   She stays at an art school that's about to close down, one of a group of colourful characters.     Frances seeks closure for a childhood that still haunts her but she may find a future there too.

I've been a fan of Toksvig for many years, though I've never read any of her fiction before.     I'm not sure this was the best novel to start with, I was certainly expecting more.    While the characters are colourful, they're largely cardboard cut outs.   The plot is standard "chick lit" fare, though it is enlivened with some of the witty observations you'd expect from Toksvig...just not enough of them.

Not a great novel, though an easy read that does raise a smile along the way, but not bad enough to stop me trying another of Toksvig's books in the future.
